Torrevieja U3A President’s Cascade, August 2017

August Cascade 2017

I don't know how you all feel but I for one am pleased the “heat wave” is over although it is still very hot we are enjoying more normal temperatures. Another couple of weeks and we should be back to normal with the bulk of the holiday makers gone. Unfortunately I exchanged one holiday hot spot for another!!

Don't forget the coffee morning on Monday 28th August. Do please bring your food for Alimentos Solidarious, your bottle tops and ring pulls but also please remember the “pickle man” will not be there so please hold onto your jars and sugars until the September meeting.

Most of our groups that stopped for the “silly season” will be starting again in September so why not check with your group leader on the exact date if you are unsure.

Your committee are always looking for ideas for social events, day trips and new groups. If you have any ideas, suggestions and/or interests please contact Phyllis Seddon on torreviejau3asocial@gmail.com or Peter Shaw on torreviejau3agroups@gmail.com with your suggestion.

Rosemary Rickman – President

Now for a word from Peter Shaw - Groups Co-ordinator

It's been a warm past few weeks and I hope everyone is enjoying the weather and keeping safe. I recently paid a visit to the UK for a few days, trust me, it's warmer and drier in Spain, don't lets complain.
Apart from the usual groups needing new group leaders (see previous cascades) there is not a lot to report.

September 25th is the groups fair.

We have a great uptake on group tables this year and also a bit of group involvement as well to showcase what can be achieved if you join.
It all starts at 11am with a welcome from our president Rosemary.

All new for the autumn season so far:-

October 12th - games afternoon - El Raso

Play games, any sort you like, cards, board, dice, marbles, counters. Make the afternoon fun. Large screen TV available. If successful it is hoped this will continue as a group.

October 21st - Music Appreciation - Casa Tom

Listen to jazz and swing music through the ages - Frank Sinatra to Robbie Williams. Listen and enjoy your own favourites.
2.30pm start
Check out our website (groups) for further details.

Most groups start again in September so please check the website for further details or simply email me and I will check for you and reply, it's that easy.

Social Report from Phyllis Seddon

I hope you are all enjoying your summer break where ever you may be, though those of us in Spain had struggled a bit to cope with the heat wave & high humidity but the recent thunderstorm had more than clear the oppressive atmosphere!

Social events are for you & your enjoyment, hence I encourage you to participate.

October:

12 Tea & Games Afternoon
18 Benidorm market & Lunch
19 Belly Dancing with Jolanda

November:

8 Tour of Licor43 & free afternoon in Cartagena.

Please look at our website for more information or email me: torreviejau3asocial@gmail.com to register your interest.

See you next month.
Phyllis
Social Secretary

Xmas Market to Berlin

Due to unforeseen circumstances the above trip will not go ahead this year.

However it is possible for next year subject to the availability of flights.

The trip would be for 4nights (as at the moment flights to berlin arrive late in the evening). This would give us 3 days in the city, 29thNov to 3rd Dec 2018 approx.

The Price at the moment would be 435 euros, single room 520 euros. This includes 4 nights 3 star city centre hotel bed /breakfast basis. Private Coach transfer to and from the airport to the hotel. The city sightseeing bus service has offered a group pass at 15 euros (this would be an extra cost) which can be used at any time and includes an English commentary. This could take place on the first morning and then everyone would be free to do as the wished.

When we return in September if anyone is still interested please email myself on pamatparty@aol.com with their name, email address and a telephone no. Also single persons who may wish to share to reduce the cost. .Hopefully the flights could be booked early so a deposit would be required of approx. 150 euros to cover the price of the flight. With booking early possibly stage payments could be made during the course of the year to ease payments.

Pam Armatage

I hope to see you on Monday 28th August for the last coffee morning of this year.
