February Cascade 2018
It only seems like the other day I was writing this for January, it is incredible to think nearly 1/6th of the year has gone already, where does the time go?
For the benefit of our new members don't forget to bring your refreshments along with you to the next meeting together with the food donations for Alimentos Solidarious who are a soup kitchen type of charity and provide meals for the poor families in Torrevieja we also collect plastic bottle tops for Aidemar in San Javier which is a non-profit association made up of families with disabled children. They offer a variety of services from care to special education and they have day centres and special employment centre. You can find out more about them on their website www.aidemar.com
Why not tell me what your group does with any surplus funds if you have them? I know the Strollers and the Singing for fun groups have bought food for Alimentos Solidarious with theirs and the easy Walkers donated the cash to the Presidents charity but what do the rest of you do? Drop me an email and we can tell all the members.
Details of our First Aid Course are now being finalised and if there are any members, particularly Group Leaders who would like to do this course please contact me with your name telephone number and email address.
Again for the benefit of new members we have books for sale at the general meetings for our charity so you can indulge your reading habit inexpensively and help the charity at the same time, then once you have read them you can donate them back and buy more, a truly win win situation.
It has been decided that at the Group Fair and Christmas Meetings we will have a craft stall in aid of Charity so all you crafty people why not get making things to donate to the stall.
It only leaves me to say before handing over to Peter Shaw our Groups Co-ordinator that I hope you will all come to our AGM on Monday 26th February to support your committee. Hopefully see you there.
Some groups at the moment seem a little confusing and here is a rough run down.
Flower arranging and Chess has finished due to lack of interest and attendance.
Art is running low on Monday members.
Spanish conversation is yet to start again.
Table tennis is yet to start after a lot of false promises from the venue.
The Los Locos Coffee Morning has a new group leader, Carol Vernon, a member of the group already and so is familiar with the venue and other members who attend.
All the remaining groups within Torrevieja U3A appear to be continuing as normal, some even reporting additional members attending and asking that new members to the group ask before just coming along to avoid having no room at the venue or insufficient playing equipment.
Military history group have recently been on a field trip, which proved very popular and interesting and the group leader was more than pleased with the response shown. He has given the date of the next meeting and the speakers.
Thanks to Felipe for this.
The current affairs group has moved temporarily to La Zenia hotel as the group leader "Jeffrey Kozack" has had a spell in hospital, but I am pleased to say he is home now and on the mend. The group will return to Jeffrey’s apartment when he is fully fit again.
Thanks to all his members for keeping the group going in his absence.
The two walking groups are showing an increase in membership numbers which is good to hear from the group leaders but,
the strollers group are still insistent on restricting their numbers unfortunately and have cut the stroll down to one (1) per month. However, we still have a stroll and are grateful to the group leaders.
Since the passing of Terry How the Jazz, swing and sprinkles group has been a little hit and miss with the group initially being suspended and then rescheduled to start on the 17th. This has again now been suspended as the group leader (Maureen) feels it a little soon for her.
See as many of you as possible next Monday.
