Torrevieja U3A Presidentís Cascade, April 2018

April Cascade 2018

Hello Everyone,

It is good to see some sun again but where is our summer? Never mind it will be what it will be. I have been advised there is a new Data Protection Act coming into force in May where you will all have to sign a form to enable us to send you anything via email. I am trying to sort this out however the wording is proving difficult to find (no surprises there) but once I have it you will be hearing from me again in the next few weeks explaining exactly what you have to do.

It has also been brought to my attention via the N332 Facebook page that you need to carry a form completed by the owner of your vehicle even if that person is your spouse. I am hopefully attaching a copy of the form to this cascade. Please do print this and pop it in the car if you drive, and donít learn the hard way.

Speaking of the N332 Facebook page our speaker this month is our old favourite Francisco Morales the policeman who helps run the page and will talk to us about any new traffic laws however do remember to bring your own refreshments.

This brings me onto the summer meetings (June, July and August) which long established members will know become coffee mornings. Your committee has decided that is seems silly having a coffee morning when you all have to bring you own coffee therefore they have decided these will be held at Rockyīs bar which in near the Sunrise complex on the N332. Just turn off at the Lidl roundabout and turn left shortly after at another roundabout then turn fist left. These will start at 10.30 am on Monday 25th June, Monday 30th July and Monday 27th August hopefully something will be sorted regarding refreshments by the time we get to the Groups Fair in September BUT ®this is Spain® so watch this space!

If you are handy with the computer you can obtain free Spanish lessons on line. I am attaching the 2 forms you will need. Why not give it a go? I hope to as my Spanish is more or less nonexistent Iīm sorry to say.

As I said above our annual groups fair is our first meeting after the summer and will be on September 24th so why not come along and see if you have missed any groups and support those you do attend.

I have gratefully received the first donation towards our craft stall at the Groups Fair . Anything you think is saleable and you think other members may like do please make and donate. I am sorry but we are unable to accept thinks for sale or return. Any items not sold will be kept until the December meeting stall or re-donated to the raffle. It would be ironic if you won your own donation but hopefully that wonít happen and we will sell out.

I know I said no more talk of Christmas until September however I must just tell you all that we have managed to book the Veletones for our Christmas meeting on 17th December a meeting not to be missed.

I am very pleased to advise that we have co-opted John Summers to the committee who I am sure will be a April great asset to the committee judging by all his hard work sorting out the First Aid Course. This now brings us up to our full strength. Welcome aboard John.

Whilst speaking about your committee I heard that at least one member was subjected to verbal abuse due to decisions taken by all the committee members and abuse of any sort will not be tolerated and will be dealt with severely. Please remember the committee as a whole work very hard and give up a lot of their free time to help you the members.

On a happier note I am pleased to advise you we now have a new Social Secretary Loriane (spelt with one R) Taylor who has already been busy organising an afternoon Tea at the Vestry on June 21st more details at the general meeting on 30th April and on the website but donít forget the Summer Party on 8th June at Vista Bella a subsidised price of 12 euro per person for a buffet meal and entertainment by Rebecca Holt. I hope to see you at all there.

Now over to Peter Shaw our Groups Co-ordinator.

I would like to say a big thank you to Tony Dean for all his time and support in being the group leader of the discussion group. Tony has retired BUT the group will continue with the support of its members.
For the present time the group will continue to meet and combine with the current affairs group and meet every Thursday in La Zenia hotel bar area at 10.30am. See you there.

The Thursday games activity has finished in El Raso due to lack of support and member involvement. It's always a shame when this happens but we all have many things going on and the day, time and venue doesn't always suit. I am hopeful that the group will continue in some form, possibly at a different venue, day, time etc;
Watch the website for more information in a couple of weeks.

I apologies to those who had shown an interest in table tennis. Some may be aware, I had everything in place a few weeks ago only to become a victim of Spanish internal venue politics. Ahhh.
Anyway I am still on the case and will come back to you on this one.

I am still awaiting your feedback on last months tasters.....

Pool - Dominos bar, Rocajuna have offered us the use of their pool table for a designated time period for our group use. We just need members. Please let me know.

Line Dancing - come on now, someone must want to line dance. Whilst I have several interested dance members I am short of a line dance leader...... ANYONE?....

Anyone interested in cooking and food?
I have a member that is interested in preparing, cooking and eating food.
The idea being that a small group would meet. One couple would prepare and cook the main course. The other couples would provide a starter and dessert. Continue this process and meet on a rotation basis so that the group learns and tastes different styles of preparation and cooking etc.
Interested in this new and good idea? contact me and I will put you in touch to arrange further discussion and a meet.

Ten Pin Bowling needs a new group leader. A big thank you to Martin and Rosemary for all their organizing each month, but the time has come for them to hand over to another leader. A new group leader can take over any time soon or from the September groups fair. All the information is available for contact and booking lanes, names of members etc.
Contact me with your initial interest, don't let this chance slip away, it's a popular activity.

Great news in that we have a new fresh flower group activity starting already in San Miguel sports centre at 2pm (1st Wednesday in each month). Learn which flowers to buy and how to keep them, arrange them and find out new display ideas. Marjorie Pennington our resident ex florist will help you.

Additionally there is the meditation group that runs from 3.45 to 4.15 ish on Mondays and a more physically challenging group that runs from 4 to 5.15 ish on Tuesdays. The meditation and challenge groups are a trial to begin with but will continue in future weeks if there is sufficient demand.
If you have visitors and you would like to bring them along please do. They can attend for up to two sessions before joining the U3A. I also have membership forms to facilitate joining at the end of the sessions. I have some spare mats. Advance notice: I will not be taking the U3A groups on the 23rd, 24th, of April nor on the 7th and 8th of May due to family commitments.
