July Cascade 2018
Hopefully this cascade will be a lot shorter than the last one but there was a lot of information we needed to get to you last month.
Firstly I will start with a reminder that the general meetings have become coffee mornings for the summer and we are holding them at Rockyís bar on the N332. Last month there was a good number of you came which is brilliant I think the bar staff did not know what hit them even thought they had agreed however they coped very well although a little slowly.
Also a reminder that we are not allowed to sell the jams and marmalades and we are unable to collect the bottle tops and food stuff for Alimentos Solidarios, however the change bucket will be there and donations for the childrenís home will be accepted. I will be unable to attend this coming one as I will have family here helping us celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary (I say he snatched me from the cradle and he says you get less for murder!) I could pack them all in the car and bring them however the car is not big enough and having the youngest at 12 years old and the eldest at 92 makes things difficult! I will be at the August meeting hopefully and of course we have our group fair in September. Jill Edwards our secretary will be standing in for me this month and will take any donations, also other members of the committee will be there if you have any queries.
PLEASE NOTE IF YOU BELONG TO THE HISTORY GROUP
The History Group will recommence on September 12th Not September 5th. Have a great summer and thanks Eddie
Help Vega Baca have asked me to bring to your attention the following new service they are offering I am also attaching a couple of posters they sent for you to have a look at.
HELP Vega Baja have introduced a new service called the HELP Vega Baja Connections Team. Trained volunteers will be on call 24/7 to take calls, answer emails and also offer a drop in service. This service is absolutely free and starts on the 1st July. We are doing everything we can to spread the word so we reach those people in the community that could benefit
We are also looking for new volunteers to join the service and undertake the training - this is 3 days training plus volunteers will be provided with a mentor and ongoing support.
Now over to Peter Shaw our Groups Co-ordinator.
A very warm welcome to you July.
The recent coffee morning at Rockys along the N332 at Playa Flamenca saw an increase in groups interest once again. New and existing members asking for information and hopefully swelling group activity numbers.
As we are now well and truly into summer mode. Many groups have finished for the summer months, so, please check with the group leader before wasting a journey to the group activity of your choice. If you are unsure, contact me and I will make enquiries on your behalf.
Let's talk first about the group activity that eludes me....... Spanish beginners/intermediate and conversation. Most important for anyone visiting and residing in Spain. YET, if one activity remains difficult to get going, this is it.
If anyone knows of anyone that could help our members, please contact me.
Over this last month I have had conversations and e mails with members wishing to start a couple of new group activities. Probably in September although one in particular starting straight away.
Metal Craft is a new activity and could start in September if anyone is interested. By collection your ring pulls from can tops you could stitch, sew and craft them with a little help and advice into a handbag, purse, bag, ornament. If you have an idea and want to learn this unique metal art. Check out the groups page website for a photo of a finished bag.
Email me for group leader details, venue, start date
Cinema group in Pilar is the latest group activity to take off. Our group leader is Marjorie and she is trying to encourage members to join the cinema group. Meet on the last Saturday of the month for the latest film viewing at 5pm and then if hungry just down the road for a Ä10 banquette to the Chino/Asian restaurante for a meal, chat and drink. Let's make this a social event.
The cinema group is Ä5 per year to join and then each viewing if completely free once you have a membership card. (Donations on entry welcome each time to contribute to the running of the cinema) Sounds a great idea for the last Saturday early evening of the month
(The cinema shows films each week Thursday and Saturday and your membership can be used on any occasion NOT just for the proposed Saturday group)
Contact me for further information or check out the website
Torrevieja U3A Walking Group
If you are considering joining the Walking Group you can do so at the Group Fair on Monday 24 September. However, the Groupís first walk is on Saturday 29 September which may not give the group coordinators sufficient time to process your membership and get the walk details to you in time for the walk.
To make things easier for both new members and the Groupís coordinators and to ensure that new members have sufficient advanced notice of the first walk, membership of the Group can be applied for immediately. All you need to do is email your full name and membership number to WalkingGroupU3A@yahoo.com
If you are an existing Group member but have not received any walk details recently, you should send an email with your full name and membership number so that your contact details can be up-dated.
The groups fair scheduled for September 24th is looking to be a packed house with almost a full complement of group leaders indicating that they require a table and will be taking part. This promises to be a major event in our groups calendar and one not to be missed for group activity information in one place at one time.
See you there.
Enjoy summer, enjoy your time here on the Costa and please......
And Loraine Taylor our Social Secretary
I am pleased to say my initial venue, Afternoon Tea at The Orange Tree, Cabo Roig on 21st June 2018, was a success. Fifteen members attended and all agreed it was great value for money. The spread was more than sufficient and the standard was high. I look forward to a repeat visit in the future.
Thursday 1st November 2018.
There has been an excellent response to the trip and we now have 55 members going, so a coach full.
The coach has been booked and based on a full coach, the cost will be 7.50Ä each which will include a tip for the driver. I will be taking payment on Monday 24th September at the Group's Fair as I have to pay for the coach the first week in October.
I will send out an email, to all those who have put their name down, in early September with details of the pick up time etc.
If anyone wishes to put their name down on a reserve list please email me at email@example.com
